Presentation of the OTB’s Business Plan for Organics

- Adding £1bn sales in the next 5 years -

For the past year the Organic Trade Board has been hard at work building a business plan to grow organic sales.  Working with sector representatives and directly with companies, certifiers and retailers, we have identified and summarised the barriers to growth and the work that is needed with the consumer, the retailers and in the supply chain if we are to grow organic sales by £1,000m in the next five years.

Despite the dismal press organic received last week, this level of growth is very possible.

On 22nd September the draft plan will be presented to all stakeholders – OTB members and other organic companies, the UK’s leading certifiers and retailers, and many others. Following that event, a final plan will be prepared for publication later in 2009.   The programme is attached.

The event is taking place at: The Regus Rooms, Citypoint, Ropemaker Street, London EC2Y 9HT

The event will showcase the plan, case studies from organic companies, and how the industry plans to work together to generate growth.  There will also be an update on the bid for EU funding, and input from:

1.    A leading UK retailer, keen to share their commitment to growing organic sales, and their expectations on margins, promotions and import vs domestic share of shelf.
2.    A major UK research house who will outline the most up to date stats on the market and the consumer.

Cost of attending is just £60 per person to cover the basic costs of the day (£50 if a second person from the same company comes along) and it is open to all.
